Welcome to Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park

Step into the historical grounds of Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park, where pivotal events of the Second Seminole War unfolded. On Christmas Day 1837, the Battle of Okeechobee marked a significant clash between over 1,000 U.S. military forces and volunteer soldiers facing off against a formidable alliance of Seminole and Miccosukee warriors near the shores of Lake Okeechobee. This historic battle not only shaped the course of the war but also brought about a shift in its intensity, as large-scale offensives subsided and smaller skirmishes became less frequent.
