Welcome to Lake June-in-Winter Scrub Preserve State Park

Welcome to the serene Lake June-in-Winter Scrub Preserve State Park, a peaceful 845-acre sanctuary dedicated to the preservation of sand scrub, one of Florida’s most imperiled natural habitats. Within these grounds, you’ll encounter a remarkable array of rare plant and animal species, including the iconic Florida scrub-jay, the elusive Florida scrub lizard, the charming Florida mouse, the majestic gopher tortoise, and the impressive Eastern indigo snake. Keep your eyes peeled for soaring ospreys and bald eagles gracing the skies above the picturesque three-mile lakefront, while occasional glimpses of white-tailed deer, bobcats, and black bears add a touch of wilderness magic to your visit. This park’s landscape is predominantly characterized by scrub, scrubby flatwoods, and bayhead, offering an ideal escape for those in search of a remote wilderness adventure, bird-watching opportunities, and immersive nature exploration. While amenities are minimal, the authentic natural encounters here are truly unparalleled. Embark on leisurely hikes along the soft white sands of the fire lanes, meander down a charming half-mile nature trail, try your hand at lakeshore fishing, or set out on a tranquil canoe or kayak journey across the sparkling waters of the lake. A cozy picnic area, complete with sheltered tables, awaits for you to revel in a serene outdoor meal experience, though grills are not provided. Situated on the picturesque west side of Lake June-in-Winter, this hidden gem is just a short 10-minute drive to the west of Lake Placid and a mere 30-minute jaunt from Highlands Hammock State Park. Accessible via a scenic 12-mile drive south of Sebring off U.S. Highway 27, simply follow U.S. 27 to the charming Lake June Road, then turn westward and enjoy the scenic drive around the lake. From there, head south on Daffodil Street and continue for two miles until you reach the enchanting park entrance.
