Welcome to Inglis Lock Recreation Area

Welcome to Inglis Lock Recreation Area, a hidden gem nestled near the majestic Cross Florida Greenway. Situated towards the western edge of the Greenway, Inglis Lock holds a special charm, even though it ceased operations back in 1999. Here, you’ll find the Cross Florida Greenway’s West Zone field office, where dedicated staff members diligently manage the area stretching from State Route 200 all the way to the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike will be delighted by the array of recreational activities awaiting them at Inglis Lock. Take a leisurely hike or a refreshing bike ride along the well-maintained barge canal walking trail that winds its way westward, offering scenic views of the Bypass Canal. Fishing enthusiasts can cast their lines in the tranquil waters of Lake Rousseau on the upstream side of the lock for freshwater catches, or opt for some saltwater fishing along the barge canal shoreline to the west of the lock.

Venture further into the wilderness and explore the vast network of multi-use trails that crisscross the picturesque 1,200-acre Inglis Island, accessible via the charming steel bridge on the south side of the lock. For those seeking a more relaxed stroll, there’s a paved trail that begins just beyond the lock on Inglis Island, leading you on a serene journey to the northwest corner of the island.

If you’re craving more adventure, follow another segment of the paved trail as it meanders southward towards the Inglis Main Dam, nestled on the southern tip of the island at the western edge of Lake Rousseau. Whether you’re an avid outdoor enthusiast or simply looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Inglis Lock Recreation Area offers a perfect sanctuary to reconnect with nature and create unforgettable memories.
