Located in the gorgeous Northeast Florida region, the Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail is currently undergoing development to transform into a paved, multi-use recreational pathway. Embraced for its potential to enhance the quality of life and bring economic opportunities to numerous small towns and communities, this trail holds great promise.

This scenic trail route covers almost 47 miles, starting from west of U.S. 17 in Palatka and extending to State Road 238 in Lake Butler. Following the former Norfolk-Southern Railroad right-of-way, the trail passes through the counties of Putnam, Clay, Bradford, and Union.

Acquired using funds from the Preservation 2000 program by the Florida Greenways and Trails Acquisition Program, the Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail owes its preservation to the Rails to Trails Conservancy. Recognized as a part of the Florida Greenways and Trails System in 2007, the development of this trail is managed by the Florida Department of Transportation, with construction taking place in segments as funding is secured.
