Henderson Beach State Park, located in Florida, has a rich history. The park was acquired in 1983 from the Henderson family estate and officially opened to the public in March 1991. This significant acquisition was made possible through the Save Our Coast land conservation program initiated by Governor Bob Graham, reflecting the family’s desire to preserve the area’s natural beauty for public enjoyment.

Upon its opening, the park’s initial infrastructure included two picnic pavilions, restrooms, beach access boardwalks, an entrance station, and support facilities. Over the years, the park has seen expansions and additions, with the inclusion of 30 campsites, a bathhouse, camping area, playground, and more beach access boardwalks by March 2000. Subsequently, an additional 30 campsites were introduced, bringing the total to 60.

One of the standout features of Henderson Beach State Park is the beautiful three-quarter mile nature trail, developed in collaboration with the Friends of Emerald Coast State Parks. This trail offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the coastal scrub communities that still thrive in the area.

Today, Henderson Beach State Park continues to be a popular destination, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. The beach sees a surge in visitors during the warmer months, while the campground remains bustling throughout the year.
