The inception of Estero Bay Preserve dates back to 1966 with the noble intent of safeguarding Estero Bay from encroaching development within the watershed. Nearly two decades later, in 1987, the management of the preserve was bifurcated into distinct water and uplands sections under the stewardship of DEP’s Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection. This strategic division amplifies the protection afforded to both realms, enabling each domain to emphasize its unique attributes while collaborating on the optimal management practices for the state lands.

Estero Bay Preserve State Park remains steadfast in its mission to preserve and uphold the distinctive and irreplaceable natural landscapes, biodiversity, and significant cultural legacies encompassed within Estero Bay. The primary objective encompasses enhancing water quality in the bay and offering superlative, experience-driven recreational avenues for the populace of Florida.
