The state of Florida’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund’s Board of Trustees took ownership of Deer Lake State Park with the goal of preserving and enhancing its natural and cultural significance for the benefit of the state’s residents.
Deer Lake State Park, initially acquired on February 6, 1996, became state property under the P2000/CARL program. The Trustees secured additional land for the park on February 26, 1997, expanding its total area to 1,994.77 acres.
