Established as a state park in 1991, Curry Hammock State Park honors the legacy of Lamar Louise Curry, a beloved Miami educator. The park is situated on land acquired by Lamar’s father, Thomas, in the Middle and Upper Keys region.

Within the park, a portion of the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail spans two miles, offering a multi-use path along the historic route of the Overseas Railroad. This path allows visitors to explore the area on foot or by bicycle, connecting to Marathon. Additionally, the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail traverses through the park, providing another way to experience its natural beauty.
